Beneath our needs, desires and ambition often lives a quiet fear of inadequacy, a sense that something is missing in us. And so we spend our lives trying to fill that inner void through achievement, approval, money, success, or becoming “better”.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">But no amount of filling ever feels enough. Because the void we are trying to fill doesn’t actually exist. It is a notion we were conditioned to believe. And when a sincere seeker begins to question this, something profound shifts. The chase loses its charm, and attention turns inward to examine this sense of lack itself.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">As you inquire more deeply, you start seeing it clearly. The inner void was never real. It was a misunderstanding, an illusion. And in seeing that, a new kind of freedom begins to dawn. Not a freedom that comes from getting what you want, but a freedom that comes from realising you were never lacking to begin with.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Now here is the part nobody prepares you for.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">As you go deeper, fear-based ambition begins to lose its grip. The pressure to prove, the insecurity-driven push, the inner urgency to “get somewhere”… it starts dissolving. For most of our lives, that pressure was our fuel. So initially, its absence feels like relief. Like you can finally breathe.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">But then another wave comes.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">When fear is no longer driving you like before, the mind quietly panics. It starts questioning: What will drive me now? Will I become lazy? Will I lose my edge? Will I stop moving forward? And suddenly what is actually freedom can start feeling like danger. Not because something is wrong, but because the nervous system has been conditioned to associate pressure with survival. When pressure dissolves, it can interpret that unfamiliar openness as unsafe.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">This is a real phase in inner work. In a way, it is like changing engines. The old engine ran on fear, lack and the need to become someone. Inquiry begins dismantling that engine. But the new engine, the one powered by love, truth, and inner clarity, takes time to stabilise.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">So you may find yourself in an in-between space. You don’t relate to the old chase anymore, but the new way of living hasn’t fully embodied itself yet. You might not know what you want. You might feel less motivated in the old way. You might feel unsure whether you’re moving forward or becoming passive.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">And often, two inner voices appear. One voice longs for freedom and says, “If I can be peaceful without achieving anything, why chase goals at all?” And the other voice is life itself wanting to express, saying, “But I still want to create. I still want to build. I still want to live fully.”<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Both voices are valid. The problem begins only when we assume we must choose one and reject the other.<p style="font-style: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration: none; caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0); color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">I’ve lived this phase myself, and I’ve seen how tender it can be. What helps most here is not force, not strategy, not more information. But gentle awareness, honest inquiry, and deep reassurance.
